Terms of use
The terms, plainly stated.
Last updated 5 July 2026
These terms govern your use of the Oath app and this website. By using Oath you agree to them. They are written to be read, not skimmed, and the health guidance below matters more than anything else on this page.
Health and safety disclaimer
Oath is a wellbeing companion, not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not a substitute for the guidance of a doctor or qualified health professional. Always consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise, breathing or cold-exposure practice, especially if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, epilepsy, respiratory illness, or any other medical condition.
Exercise and training
Physical training carries a risk of injury. You are responsible for choosing weights, movements and intensities that are appropriate for your body, experience and health. Warm up properly, use safe equipment and good form, and stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, chest discomfort or shortness of breath. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
Breathing and meditation
Breathing exercises, including box breathing, 4-7-8 and other paced rhythms, can cause light-headedness, tingling or, in rare cases, fainting. Practise them seated or lying down in a safe place. Never practise breathing exercises while driving, operating machinery, standing in or near water, or in any situation where a brief loss of awareness could cause harm. If you feel faint, return to normal breathing.
Cold exposure
Cold showers, cold plunges and other deliberate cold exposure place genuine stress on the heart, circulation and breathing, and can be dangerous. The cold-shock response can cause involuntary gasping and rapid breathing. Do not combine breath holds with cold water. Never plunge alone, never enter open water without appropriate supervision and experience, keep sessions short, and get out at the first sign of numbness, confusion or uncontrolled shivering. Cold exposure is not suitable for everyone; if you have any cardiovascular condition, consult your doctor first.
You use every practice in Oath voluntarily and at your own risk. If you are ever unsure whether a practice is safe for you, do not do it and speak to a professional.
Using Oath
Oath grants you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices that you own or control, in line with the App Store terms. Where these terms are silent, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement applies.
You agree not to misuse the app, attempt to reverse engineer it, or use it in any way that breaks the law.
Subscriptions and purchases
Some features are part of Oath Pro, an optional subscription or one-time purchase processed by Apple through your App Store account. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel them at any time in your App Store account settings. Refunds are handled by Apple under their policies.
Your content and data
Everything you record in Oath remains yours. It is stored on your device and in your private iCloud, and we have no access to it. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
Accuracy of information
Statistics, records, streaks and any guidance shown in the app or written on this site are provided in good faith for general information and motivation. They may contain errors and should not be relied on as professional advice of any kind.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Oath and its developer are not liable for any injury, loss or damage arising from your use of the app or your participation in any exercise, breathing or cold-exposure practice, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes
The app and these terms will evolve. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new date above. Continuing to use Oath after a change means you accept the updated terms.
