Free online meditation timer
Choose a length, settle, and let a singing bowl mark the beginning and the end. No account, no advertising, nothing to install. Just a quiet screen and a bell.
Length
Get ready
An optional countdown to settle before you begin.
How to use the timer
Pick a length and press begin. If you want a moment to settle before the clock starts, choose a short countdown under Get ready. The bowl sounds once when the sit opens, the orb keeps a slow, wordless pulse while you sit, and the ring closes as your time runs out. The bowl sounds again at the end.
Tap the orb at any point to pause, and tap it again to carry on. If you want to sit a little longer, add a minute with the plus button. Press escape, or the cross in the corner, to leave.
How long should a sit be?
Long enough to be honest, short enough that you will do it again tomorrow. Ten minutes suits most people. If your mind is loud, five minutes done daily will teach you more than a half hour you dread. The point is not the length of the sit, it is the return: you notice you have wandered, and you come back. That is the practice, and it works at any duration.
What to do with your attention
Sit upright, somewhere you will not be interrupted. Let your breath find its own rhythm rather than steering it. When you notice you are thinking, and you will, note it without annoyance and return to the feeling of the breath. You are not trying to empty your mind. You are practising coming back.
If you would rather be given a rhythm to follow than left alone with your own, try the breathing exercises, where an orb paces your inhale and exhale. For cold exposure there is a cold plunge timer as well.
Why the bell matters
A timer with no sound leaves you checking the clock, which is the opposite of sitting. A bell removes that job from you. The bowl on this page is synthesised rather than recorded, so it starts clean and decays into real silence over twelve seconds instead of being cut off. It is the same bell the Oath app rings, built from the same code.
Common questions
Is this meditation timer really free?
Yes. It is free, there is no account, no sign up and no advertising, and nothing is installed. It runs entirely in your browser, and we do not record your sessions or send them anywhere.
What is the bell at the start and end?
A singing bowl, synthesised from five inharmonic partials over a 196 Hz fundamental. It is the same bell the Oath app rings, generated live in your browser rather than played from a recording. It sounds once to open your sit and once to close it.
How long should I meditate for?
Ten minutes is a good place to start, and five minutes every day beats thirty minutes once a week. Lengthen the sit only when the current one starts to feel short.
Can I add time in the middle of a session?
Yes. The plus and minus buttons either side of the clock add or remove a minute while you sit, so you can stay a little longer without starting again.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, on any modern browser on iPhone, Android, iPad, Mac or PC. Keep the tab in the foreground so your device does not sleep. For sessions that are remembered, and for a timer that keeps running with the screen off, use the Oath app.
Are my sessions saved?
Not here. This page forgets everything the moment you close the tab. The Oath app saves each session and turns them into minutes, streaks and history.
